Canoo announced Wednesday that it has selected Pryor, Oklahoma, as the location of its EV battery manufacturing facility.
Key Details
- Electric vehicle (EV) startup Canoo has announced the location of its battery-manufacturing facility that will have a capacity of 320 megawatt hours—making it among the largest such facility, generating enough electricity to power 200,000 homes in a day.
- The facility will produce battery modules as well as energy-management systems and thermal controls.
- Canoo will also use the nearby Grand River Dam to become the first EV manufacturer to use hydro-power to produce battery modules.
Why it’s news
As the demand for electric vehicles continues to rise, more companies are creating manufacturing facilities for the batteries needed to power the vehicles.
The startup company also works alongside Panasonic Holdings Corp—Tesla’s battery cell supplier—to manufacture Canoo’s battery packs.
The location of the new facility will also be the site of Canoo’s future “MegaMicro” factory.
Backing up a bit
The startup company has been making a splash in the EV world as it recently announced a massive order of electric vans from van rental provider Kingbee—marking the company’s largest EV order.
Kingbee ordered 9,300 EV vans from Canoo, an American based EV startup company. This is the second major order Canoo has announced this month. Earlier it announced a contract with van rental company Zeeba for 3,000 vehicles.
