Jordan Peterson’s Optimistic Vision Of the Future

Canadian psychologist and influential speaker Jordan Peterson wants to create a vision of the future that rivals that of the World Economic Forum.

Key Details

  • Canadian psychologist Jordan B. Peterson appeared on Saturday’s January 28 episode of the Joe Rogan Experience podcast for a three-hour discussion. See a shorter clip here.
  • Peterson announced that he would be gathering a group in Fall 2023 to serve as a populist alternative to the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) annual meetings at Davos, the latest of which took place from January 16 to January 20.
  • The consortium is scheduled to meet for the first time this October 31 through November 2 in London with 2,000 invited guests to discuss issues relevant to a new vision for the future. It will be publicly presented, and subsequent conferences may expand to larger membership and public viewing.
  • “I can’t tell you all the details yet, but we’re trying to put together something like an alternative vision of the future, an alternative to that kind of apocalyptic narrative being put forward, at least implicitly, by organizations like the WEF … You don’t get to impose your utopian vision in service of your narcissism on the poor,” says Peterson.

Why It’s News

The World Economic Forum has become a contentious and politically volatile subject matter since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. As the Associated Press notes, theories surrounding “the great reset” have become mainstream talking points, with thousands of people fearing that the WEF is going to impose restrictions on the sale of meat, encourage anti-natalism, and eliminate home ownership in its attempts to address climate change and social justice.

The annual WEF meeting at Davos is a collection of thousands of the most influential and wealthy global leaders in the world, brought together to discuss solutions to difficult challenges. While the WEF has very little direct power over world affairs, members of the WEF are active in every world government and use Davos as a way to help set the tone of world politics, doing their best to advance a stakeholder capitalist society where leaders act responsibly, with the future in mind.

Peterson is accusing the WEF of advancing a utopian, tyrannical, and “anti-human” agenda that would overwhelmingly negatively affect the most poor—and doing so by proliferating a vision of the future that says human prosperity is a net negative. He notes that this has created incestuous collusion between world governments, corporations, and the media to spread this top-down vision of the future.

The new unnamed consortium will be gathering to discuss ideas later this year, including how to get clean energy resources for the lowest price possible to avoid negatively impacting the poor, how to foster a pro-human view of environmentalism, how to encourage pro-family policies that foster long term, monogamous, and childbearing families, and building cultural stories that discourage “the spirit of power,” Daily Wire notes.

Peterson also spoke with Rogan about his ongoing scrutiny from the College of Psychologists of Ontario that could result in his medical license being revoked.

Parent's wealth tips the scales for SAT numbers

New data shows a strong correlation between family income and SAT scores, indicating the exam may act as a “wealth test” that advantages higher-income students.

Key Details

  • Students from wealthier families tend to score higher on the SAT than lower-income peers due to advantages like well-funded schools, tutors, and extracurricular activities.
  • The pandemic has exacerbated SAT score disparities, with average scores dropping the most among disadvantaged groups.
  • Addressing the gap requires increased funding for lower-income school districts and expanding access to test prep resources.
  • Children from the top 1% of families are twice as likely to attend an Ivy-Plus college (Ivy League, Stanford, MIT, Duke, and Chicago) compared to middle-class families with similar SAT/ACT scores.

Seattle tech talent

Seattle has emerged as the metro area with the most advanced tech talent, beating out tech hubs like San Francisco and Silicon Valley.

Key Details

  • According to a new ranking by the Burning Glass Institute, Seattle has the highest proportion of advanced tech workers compared to other cities with similarly sized tech workforces.
  • The ranking evaluated 60 million high-paying, in-demand tech job postings and histories to identify cities with cutting-edge roles like AI and cybersecurity rather than legacy tech positions.
  • With tech giants Amazon and Microsoft headquartered in Seattle, the city edged out the San Francisco Bay Area, Boston, Austin, and Raleigh on the list.
  • The report found that demand for software developers and IT support specialists has declined over the past five years as companies seek more specialized tech talent.
