What’s New With the New iPhone

Big changes could be on the way for Apple’s iPhone 14.

Key details
Apple is introducing its latest version of the iPhone tomorrow.

The phone is expected to have a new processing chip called the A16 chip.

It is also anticipated that new Apple watches and AirPods will be unveiled.

Analysts are expecting a price jump for the Pro versions of the iPhone.

Surprising statistics
The latest line of phones and watches will come with plenty of new features…

  • The iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max are said to come with new 48-megapixel camera sensors, while the standard phones will have 12-megapixel
  • The 14 Pro and Pro Max will have a triple camera lens with wide-angle, ultra-wide angle, and telephoto lenses, while the standard will only have wide-angle and ultra-wide angle lenses
  • The newest watches are rumored to have new processors and battery life and could even feature a new temperature gauge
  • Apple is also rumored to be working on a more rugged version of the watch to make it better for outdoorsy consumers

Why it’s news
The U.S. hit the highest inflation rate in decades this year, raising prices for most things and it seems the iPhone might be another item added to the list.

Apple releases multiple versions of the iPhone each year and it is expected that the upgraded version will have a price hike, but the standard model will have the same starting price.

“While the base iPhone will stay at the same price, we believe a $100 price increase on the iPhone 14 Pro/Pro Max is likely given component price increases as well as added functionality on this new release,” Wedbush analyst Daniel Ives wrote in a recent note.

Apple will announce the new products and features at the Apple event on Wednesday at 1 p.m. Eastern. For the last two years the company has been hosting the events virtually, but this year it is returning to an in-person event at the Apple headquarters in Cupertino, California.

What’s not being said
Apple is highly ranked in many different areas, even cars. The kicker is the company has never made one.

Strategic Vision recently conducted a survey of 200,00 new vehicle owners. The survey listed Apple among more than 45 car makers. Apple was the third highest brand consideration.

The results concluded that 26% of customers said they would “Definitely Consider” an Apple-branded vehicle in the future behind Toyota (38%) and Honda (32%).

Not only did many say they would own a car from Apple, the company is also one of the most loved of all the brands. When asked about the quality of Apple, 24% of consumers ticked the top box labeled “I love it” beating the other brands by a big gap.

EV tax

More crossover SUVs will qualify for the electric vehicle (EV) tax credit after an announcement from the Biden administration.

Key Details

  • General Motors and Stellantis officials have been lobbying for changes to the EV tax credit issued last year.
  • While the tax credit was intended to incentivize EV purchases, many popular EV models were excluded from the legislation.
  • This change came about by redefining what vehicles are considered sport-utility.
  • The Inflation Reduction Act initially provided a tax credit to SUVs priced above $80,000. Passenger-car customers did not receive a credit if the vehicle cost less than $55,0000.
  • The change is retroactive to January 1, allowing buyers who already made a purchase to claim the credit.
