Musk’s Successful Side Hustle

Elon Musk is not one to shy away from outlandish ideas and his latest one sure is unusual—Burnt Hair perfume.

Key Details

  • Tesla and The Boring Company CEO Elon Musk is continuously in the headlines for various things, whether it be a high dollar acquisition or a new invention—this time it’s perfume.
  • Musk created a perfume that is burnt hair scented and put it up for pre-order on his The Boring Company website.
  • Sales for the perfume immediately took off—selling around 10,000 bottles at $100 a bottle making a whopping million rather quickly.
  • Because of Musk’s luster, the perfume is selling for many multiples of its suggested price on second-hand sites.

Why it’s news

One thing about Musk is that he has a very loyal fan base. His fans continue to praise him for pretty much anything he does—even when he makes questionable fragrances.

Musk announced on Twitter that he was opening a pre-order for Burnt Hair perfume with a $100 price tag that is set to be distributed early next year. His loyal fans immediately purchased the product with no questions asked.

The perfume described as “The Essence of Repugnant Desire” is reselling for more than $1,000 on sites like eBay and no one has even smelled the fragrance yet.

Musk says the fragrance is the finest on earth and can even be purchased using cryptocurrency Dogecoin which Musk has been a fan of for some time.

Subscriptions are a growing part of the global economy, affecting everything from newspapers to razors to the heated seats in a vehicle.

Key Details

  • By 2026, the global subscription e-commerce market is expected to reach $905 billion. In 2021 it was around $72.91 billion, Forbes reports.

Key Details
