Why it’s news
As many employees stopped going to the office, LinkedIn became a place where many professionals networked and made human connections. Though LinkedIn is becoming more like the typical social-media platform with personal posts and life updates, it remains a valuable tool for networking, professional development, and job searching.
Around 52 million users search for jobs on LinkedIn weekly, and about 230 million job applications are submitted monthly, Fortune reports.
LinkedIn’s slow change to resemble other social media sites seems to be working in the company’s favor as engagement on the platform rises. Part of the increased engagement may be due to the company’s rebranding when it began promoting influencers and content creators. Adding newsletter and video options also upped the site’s engagement.
The change to posting more personal content on a previously strictly professional site could be helping prospective job hunters as well.
“Those personal anecdotes are a jumping-off point in furthering the conversation. Your authenticity, humor, and personal experience in a professional context can help you connect on a deeper and more relatable level with your network,” LinkedIn Editor-in-Chief Dan Roth says.
