Why it’s important
Crocs have widely been known as a casual rubber shoe popular amongst medical professionals, restaurant workers, and children, but now the clog has reached aluxury status landing a spot in Lyst Index’s top 10 most coveted luxury products.
Crocs were named the 10th most coveted luxury product for the fourth quarter of 2022, along with top luxury brands Saint Laurent, Prada, Dr. Martens, Arlington, Bottega Veneta, Acne Studios, Loewe, Mach & Mach, and Miu Miu.
Crocs have long been known as a casual, low-cost shoe, but the company has been broadening its space and releasing collaborations with larger brands and celebrities to bring in more customers that wouldn’t typically purchase the rubber clog.
Crocs Pollex clog, designed by American shoe designer Salehe Bembury, former designer for Versache, was the collaboration drop that landed Crocs in the luxury top 10.
The design was dropped in September of last year for $85, and many of the shoes sold out within 35 seconds, making it Crocs quickest selling product. The clog was so popular that it has been found on resale sites ranging from $100 to $1,000.
“We were incredibly proud to see our Crocs x Salehe Bembury clog earn a spot on the Lyst Top 10 Hottest Products list in 2022,” says Crocs CEO Andrew Rees. “Collaborations are a key part of our lineup as they allow us to reach new customers who might not otherwise consider our brand.”
The company says it has other collaborations in the works with other brands and celebrities and is preparing another collaboration with Bembury for Crocs slides that are expected later this year.
